Frank McCrary- Age 77, of Brentwood, passed away October 19, 2020.
Although Frank was born in Arkansas, his family soon moved to Warner Robins, GA, where Frank spent his childhood and eventually met his future wife, Raikes Anne. They married in 1968 in Conway Arkansas. He worked in banking, auditing and corporate insurance as a CPA.
As a small child Frank was stricken with polio and spent much of his childhood undergoing several surgeries and recovering at Warm Springs GA in the facility founded by Franklin Roosevelt. Frank related well to kids and in many ways was "just a kid at heart", perhaps making up for the joys of childhood he missed due to polio. He was a church youth counselor, Sunday School teacher, and later in life became a full-time substitute teacher for grades K-4, where he was fondly known as "Mr Frank". He rewarded students' good behavior with a much coveted pencil inscribed as "Mr Frank's All-Stars". He shared his thrill of Opryland Park by including younger cousins and neighbors. He took his daughter and her friends to rock concerts and usually left with the commemorative t-shirt. With his granddaughter he discovered a love of horses and helped her discover her great talents as a rider. Starting with his childhood dog Mitzi, he had a strong bond with family's dogs throughout the years.
Preceded in death by his parents Artie Mae "Peggy" Tomlinson McCrary and Jewel Frank McCrary, Sr.; sister Shirley McCrary. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Raikes Anne McCrary; daughter Nancy Lynn McCrary; granddaughter Nicole Anne "Nikki" McCrary; sister Jean Cales (Doug); brother Allen David "Butch" McCrary; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Life Celebration will be held 3:00pm, Saturday at The Pavilion at Harpeth with visitation 2:00pm-3:00pm.
