Fred Venson Light, age 77 of Brush Creek, passed away February 20 at his daughter's home in Murfreesboro.
Fred was born March 21, 1939 in Ingram Branch, WV to Jake and Glenna Wriston Light. With the encouragement of a local judge, Fred entered military service at the age of 16, vowing to his Sargent that he was actually 17. He proudly served in the United States Army, stationed at one point in Berlin.
Upon returning home, he opened Crown Ford in 1968 along with owner Carl Sweeny, and worked as a salesman for Rivergate Lincoln Mercury, totaling 32 years in the industry. He will be best remembered as a school bus driver for 20 years. In 1975, Fred's life was changed. He devoted his life to Christ and began the next phase of his life that found him always helping and providing for people as they needed. He loved the children who rode on his bus and often checked on their progress with their teachers. If they needed a coat, he provided. If they looked hungry, he made sure they were fed. He truly loved people.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Terie and Michael Fly of Murfreesboro; and a brother: Kenny Wriston of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter: Heather Fly.
The family will celebrate his life with a memorial service on Thursday, February 23 at 1:00 PM at the Tusculum Hills Baptist Church, officiated by Bill Highsmith. Following the service, the family will receive friends for visitation from 3:00 - 8:00 PM at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, February 24 at 11:00 AM at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, with Military Honors provided by the United States Army.
