Fred C. Tidwell, age 86 of Bon Aqua, passed away October 10, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family.
Fred was born October 23, 1930 in Nashville and was one of twelve children of Lum Turner Tidwell and Bessie Spence Tidwell. He was an electrician by trade and veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army.
Fred was known for his tinkering, whether it was on his lawn mowers or on his truck. He was known by his CB handle "Freeloader" and spent as much time as possible outside. He simply loved nature and being in it. His favorite response to the question, "How are you doing?" was always, "Kickin', but not high, floppin', but can't fly." He was a member of South Harpeth Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife: Ruby Mae Hinson Tidwell; seven children: Terry Greene, Mark Tidwell, Stanley "Keiffer" Tidwell, Nancy Myers, Tommy Tidwell, Donna England and Tyree Austin; five siblings: Betty Ann Fisk, Shirley Null, Sarah Hand, Charles Tidwell and Jesse Tidwell; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents: Lum and Bessie Tidwell; his first wife: Betty Austin Tidwell; a daughter: Teresa McNeil; and siblings: Marie Hudgins, Christine Hughes, Irene McCord, John Tidwell and Ted Tidwell.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral
Home. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Michael Hanes. Burial, with military honors provided by the United States Army, will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Willowbrook Hospice, and especially to Fred's nurse, Bre, for their dedicated service and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Willowbrook Hospice.
