Born September 23, 1952, passed away at home surrounded by dear loved ones on February 2, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. Born in San Antonio, Texas to James Arla Bennett and Nancy McGill Bennett, he was the first of four children. Fred completed his early grades at Gower Elementary School and graduated from Bellvue High School in 1972. He moved to Williamson County in 1975 where he made his home. He joined the Williamson County Sheriff's Department as a Reserve Deputy in September, 1979 where in short-order, was moved to full time Sheriffs Deputy until 1982, when he was then promoted to Detective, in the Criminal Investigation Department. In 1985 he was promoted to Lieutenant and later, to Captain over C.I.D. where he held that position until he retired from the Department in 2016.
In life, he and Terri enjoyed travel that was affectionately referred to as "wandering", fishing at his favorite spots, rabbit and dove hunting with friends and family and NASCAR/Football Sundays in the barn with close friends.
He achieved many accomplishments in his personal life and his career with the Williamson County Sheriffs Department. He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Hall, Hiram #7 and the Franklin Noon Rotary, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award. He also served as a mutton buster wrangler for the Franklin Rodeo, until one of them got the best of him. He proudly still serves.
He is a life time member of the Association of Professional Police Investigators and the Fraternal Order of Police and was also a past member of the Tennessee Blue Knights MC, Chapter V. But among all of his accomplishments in life, he was most proud of his family and the growth of his many friendships.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Teresa Tyson Bennett, of whom made his life whole. His Son, James Benjamin Bennett (Rebecca) grandchildren Rylee, Jacob and Jackson Bennett, Daughter, Autumn Tyson Stone and grandchild Lucy Theiler. Siblings, Judy (Danny) Baggett , Robert (Cindy) Bennett, Maria (David) Becker and also many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held Monday, February 8, at Harpeth Hills Cemetery located on100 Highway with visitation staring at 2pm and the graveside service at 3pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Officiating the service will be Sheriff, Dusty Rhodes. Acting as active pallbearers will be the Williamson County Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Buerger, Taylor Bettis, Steven Lee, W.D. Dozier, Lonnie Hazelwood, Donnie Cameron, Don Wade, Tony Phillips, James " Hog" Graves, Tameka Sanders and all his CID family. Also included are the rest of his brothers and sisters in arms with the Williamson County Sheriffs Department, Franklin Police Department, Brentwood Police Department, Nolensville Police Department, Fairview Police Department, Spring Hill Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
