Loving father and husband, Gary Lee Johnson, age 73, of Kingston Springs, passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2021. Gary was born on May 20, 1947, to Robert and Mildred Johnson. After graduating from Bellevue High School in 1965, Gary attended Lipscomb for one year before serving in the Air Force where he was stationed at Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Seoul, Korea. A graduate of Nashville State Tech, Gary worked for several years at Baptist Hospital and later retired from DCI in 2016.
Gary formed a relationship with his wife Patty while participating in a church bowling league, and the two have been married almost 49 years.
Gary enjoyed spending time and playing games with his grandchildren and proudly attended their various sporting and scouting events. He loved woodworking and writing poetry, but he was best known for his hugs and making conversation with everyone he met--a skill that served him well for the seven years that he and his family owned the local Harpeth Restaurant. This love of people and God also led him to serve as an Elder of the Pegram Church of Christ for 27 years.
In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his son, Hargus (Gus) Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Patty (Anderson) Johnson; his daughter, Stacey (Seth) Vandrasik; his son, Robert Aaron (Lori) Johnson; his sister, Janice Weatherly; five grandchildren, Carter, Parker and Geneva Vandrasik, and Cameron and Jack Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
His passing will leave a hole in the hearts of all of the family and friends who love him.
