Gary Mallard, age 74 of Nashville, passed away May 2, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by family.

A native of Bakersfield, CA, Gary was the son of the late Harold and Esther Mallard.

Gary attended St. Joseph Grammar School and Garces High School. He was an active member in the Road Angels Car Club, a group who prided themselves on their community service. He played football at Garces as well as Bakersfield College. He entered the Marine Corps Reserve at the end of his sophomore year. Following his military training, he married Carolyn in 1963. They then transferred to Los Angeles where he worked as a Corporate Executive, or Graphite Engineer as he liked to say, with Sears-Roebuck.

Continuing his love of sports, be began to coach softball, baseball and soccer for his three children. He was a NCAA Soccer referee in the Pac-10, as well as a FIFA ref.

In 1986 Gary moved the family to Chicago where he worked in the Sears Tower. Taking the opportunity of early retirement, he then joined his wife, Carolyn, in her Real Estate business.

Gary's final retirement was to Nashville where he enjoyed warmer weather, great friends and family, and lots of golf at Temple Hills Country Club.

Gary was a quiet spiritual fundamentalist and truly believed that he was going to see Jesus.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his three children: Gennifer (David) Devaney, Cassie Griffin and Geoffrey Mallard; Grandchildren: Jacob, Delaney, Austin and Luke; and a sister: Kay (Steve) Uhalt.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 20 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the Pavilion at Harpeth Hills for visitation. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM at the Pavilion.
