Gary Williams

July 9, 1945 — December 15, 2024

Gary Dean Williams, 79, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side on December 15, 2024, at 6:15 a.m., after a courageous battle with COPD. He was born on July 9, 1945, in Bloomfield, Missouri, to Lona Mae and Archie Williams.

Gary was a proud veteran who served his country with honor. During his time in the U.S. Army, he completed one tour of duty in Vietnam, serving in communications. For his service, he was awarded the **Vietnam Defense Service Medal**, the **Vietnam Service Medal**, and the **Vietnam Campaign Medal**. He later continued his military service with the National Guard for 20 years, where he worked as a helicopter crew chief. Throughout his military career, he displayed exceptional skill, earning a sharpshooting medal and the respect of his fellow service members.

After his military career, Gary worked as a streetlight electrician lead man for Nashville Electric Service, dedicating his talents to improving his community and providing for his family.

Gary’s faith was a guiding light in his life. He had a deep love for church and a strong devotion to God, finding great joy in worship and singing.

Gary had a deep love for the outdoors and sports. He was a talented athlete in high school, a passionate golfer who achieved two holes-in-one, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Music also brought him great joy; he loved singing at church and playing the guitar. Gary was known for his sharp wit and humor, always ready with a joke—especially his favorite “wooden eye” joke.

Above all, Gary was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Married to the love of his life, Brenda Williams, for 59 years, he built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. He adored his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Gary is survived by his wife, Brenda Williams; his daughter, Niki Stutts (Mike); his grandchildren, Steven Weston, Micah Stutts, and Kaylee Stutts; his sisters, Nancy White and Kay Gilles (Jack); his mother-in-law, Margaret Downing; his sister-in-law, Elouise Williams (Gerald); and his brother-in-law, Doug Downing (Shay). He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lona Mae and Archie Williams, and his siblings, Billy Jean, Bob, Ann, Pat, Jimmy, and Eddie Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Disabled American Veterans
