Glenn Wesley Horner Jr., 90, of Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was born in Centerville, TN, on October 23, 1934, as the only child of Glenn Horner and Callie Hudgins Horner.
True to his roots but determined to pursue higher education, Glenn was a proud first-generation college graduate, earning his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1956. After graduation, he returned home to Centerville to work on the family farm.
Shortly before enlisting in the United States Army, Glenn met Martha Herren of Columbia, TN, during a Christmas party at his home. Martha quickly became the love of his life.
Glenn and Martha married in 1958 at the Highland Avenue Church of Christ in Columbia, TN. Soon after, Glenn was stationed in Baltimore, MD, during his time in the Army. Following his service, the couple returned to Tennessee, where they built a loving life together.
Glenn worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable life for his family. He and Martha raised their two sons, Mark and Gerald, in the Crieve Hall neighborhood of Nashville, where they were long-time members of Crieve Hall Church of Christ. Though Glenn did not make farming his full-time career, he remained closely connected to his agricultural roots, managing the family farm and raising Angus cattle. He cherished time outdoors, especially when counting cattle in the pasture with his grandchildren by his side.
Glenn was known for his selflessness and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His family and friends will remember him as a man who always put others first, with a generous heart and a kind spirit.
Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Callie, and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 66 years, Martha Horner; his sons and daughters-in-laws Mark (Melissa) Horner and Gerald (Christy) Horner; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law April (Rich) Good; his grandsons Cove Horner and Gil Horner; and great-grandchildren Elijah Smith and Sadie Smith.
The family invites relatives and friends for a Celebration of Life service on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. Burial Service at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, TN, 37211.
