Helen Brown Cooper passed away peacefully on June 10, 2014. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Etta Bagley Brown and her beloved husband of 65 years, Thomas L. cooper, Sr.

To know her was to love her. A true Southern Belle, she easily made friends out of strangers, charming them with her grace and her quick wit. No matter what the occasion was, she took her good time with her.

Helen was born in Columbus, Georgia on April 23, 1918. She lived most of her life in Atlanta where she was a faithful member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist church. A 1940 Megna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Georgia, she married her husband in 1941. Three months later Pearl Harbor was attacked and he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. During his three years of service overseas she taught elementary school in the Atlanta Public School System and completed her Masters of Education degree at Emory University. She continued to teach for sixteen years.

Helen enjoyed travel and accompanied her husband on numerous trips abroad. Throughout her life she enjoyed early American history with a particular interest in early American homes and their furnishings. She visited Colonial Williamsburg a gazillion times, often bringing back authentic reproductions with which to decorate her home. She enjoyed attending University of Georgia football games and watching the Atlanta Braves play on television.

Se is survived by her son, Thomas L. Cooper, Jr. (Pamela), two grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Rumble and Thomas L. Cooper III "Tad" and one great-grandson, Cason Isaiah Rumble.

The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to the dedicated caregivers at Emeritus at Bellevue Place and the Lodge at Natchez Trace for the loving attention they gave Helen in the four years she lived in Nashville. The family would also like to thank Alive Hospice for helping keep her comfortable in her final days.

The funeral will be held on Friday, June 13, 1:00 pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with visitation starting at 11:00 am. Burial will be Saturday, June 14 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
