Helen Joyce Strickland, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on May 10, 2024, surrounded by her family. Her life, marked by dedication and love, leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
While Helen's physical presence may be gone, her spirit lives on through the love and memories she shared with all who knew her. She is reunited in eternity with her loving husband Howard Ray Strickland, son Steven Strickland, father Leon Tidwell, mother Helen Louise Sullivan Tidwell and custodial grandparents Riley and Beulah Tidwell.
Helen is survived by her son Michael Greg (Carole) Strickland; grandchildren Chonta (Bobby) Dillingham, Steven (Rebecca) Strickland, Cassi (Jason) Webster, Kati (Vic) Moore, Kelli (Jason) DeVol, Michael Strickland (Sabrina Graves) and 13 very much-loved great grandchildren and 2 bonus great grandchildren; sisters Barbara Fields, Betty (Eddie) Hunt; cousin Vernon Tidwell as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
Helen led a fulfilling life intertwined with service and family bonds. Graduating from Bellevue High School in 1958, she embarked on a career path that exemplified compassion and commitment. She served as a school mother patrol for Metro, a substitute teacher, and even held the role of substitute principal for Cheatham County. Alongside her husband Howard and son Greg "Mike," Helen co-founded the Nashville Tomato Company—a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her family.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Helen found joy in various hobbies and interests. She shared a profound love for traveling and cruising around the world with Howard. Together they explored over 50 countries. Her faith in God was unwavering, evident through her membership at West Meade Fellowship church. Family always held a special place in Helen's heart; for over 60 years, she nurtured and upheld the bond that kept her loved ones close.
The services to honor Helen's life will take place at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home in Nashville. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 4:00pm ~ 8:00pm and Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 9:00am ~ 10:00am with a Celebration of Life at 10:00am and the burial to follow.
