On Thursday, November 29, 2018, Henry Clay Nichols, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 87.
Born on February 18, 1931, in Nashville, TN to Chester and Nancy (Thompson) Nichols, Henry graduated Cohn High School where he is remembered as an outstanding football player. He was married to the love of his life, Betty Ann Jeter, for 69 years. They raised three children, Nancy Nichols Schwartz, (Jon), Daryl Nichols, MD, (Donna) and Dana Nichols Burke, (Charlie).
Henry was a 58 year member of West Nashville/Phoenix Lodge, F&AM # 131. He was a very active member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple where he served as a Captain of the Patrol. For many years Henry served as the Chairman of the Shrine Circus and was later honored to be listed as Chairman Emeritus. He loved to play golf and was active in The Brentwood Shrine Golf Group.
He served as a Motorcycle Officer and later as a Detective with the Davidson County Police Department. He retired as a salesman from Andrews Cadillac.
Henry was known for his wit, his joy of life but mostly for the love of his wife Betty and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Nancy Nichols and two sisters, Evelyn, Sissy, and brother Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his children Nancy, Daryl and Dana, five grandchildren, Rob Wright, Rebecca Valiquette, Adam Nichols, Dane Nichols, Hank Nichols and six delightful great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy. 100, Nashville, TN from 4 to 6 PM with a Masonic Funeral service to follow. To celebrate Henry's life, a second Visitation will be held on Monday December 3, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home from 10 to 11 with the Service following. Dr. Rick Helms will be officiating.
Active Pall Bearers will be Rob Wright, Adam Nichols, Dane Nichols, Hank Nichols, Matthew Valiquette and Guy Whitley. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jim Campbell, David Clayton, Don Heath and his other Masonic and Shrine Brothers.
Burial will follow the service at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or the charity of your choice.
