Hermann Friedrich Zimmermann was born in Oberschuepf, Germany, on December 28, 1927, came to the United States in 1952 as a Fullbright Scholar and exchange student at George Peabody College, and made Nashville his home. He worked for many years as a graphic design artist with Methodist Publishing House, Illustration Design Group, as a founding partner of Design Graphics, Inc., and with his company, High Point Graphics. Among other honors and awards for commercial artwork, his original design was selected for the official Bicentennial Medal of the State of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in his native Germany. Hermann was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his survivors, his wife of 41 years, Brigitta Zimmermann; his four children, Fritz Zimmermann, Karen Mevis, Lisa Russell and Holly Byrd, all in the Nashville area; a stepson, Ken Squier; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Kaitlyn Russell, Sean Mevis, and Nathan, Lanie and Tyler Byrd; his brother, Walter Zimmermann, and eight nieces and nephews in Germany. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 7, 2013 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 113 8th Avenue South, Nashville. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to Alive Hospice, 1710 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.
