Hunter Stevens Neubert Age 82 passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Franklin, TN on Saturday, January 18, 2020. He was born April 21, 1937 to Rhynehardt Eugene Neubert and Sara Stevens Neubert in Okolona, MS. He spent his early childhood in Memphis, TN before moving back to Okolona during his elementary school years. He married Marion Shirley Brooks on March 15. 1964. They have two sons, Eugene Hunter Neubert and Christopher Brooks Neubert. His only grandson is named for him, Hunter Stevens Neubert II.

Hunter was preceded in death by his father, Rhynehardt and mother, Sara. He is survived by his wife, Marion, sons Eugene (Tara Atwood) of Franklin, TN, Chris of Ft. Myers, FL, and grandson Hunter II of Ft. Myers, FL. He is also survived by his brother, Rhyne Neubert of Ridgeland, MS, niece Lisa (Stuart) Chisolm of Jackson, MS, nephew David (Laura) Neubert of Germantown, TN, nephew Hayes (Susanna) Brooks of Starkville, MS niece Lara (Matt) Biggers of Mandeville, LA, and Marion's cousin Ronald (Virginia) Robinson of Roswell, GA.

Hunter attended Mississippi State University, graduating in 1959 with a degree in business administration and then went on to law school at the University of Mississippi where he completed an LLB in August 1963. After law school he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority checking titles on power lines for a dam being built. He then practiced law in Cleveland, MS from June 1965 to March of 1968 at which time he went to work for the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Nashville, TN. He retired from the VA in December 1995 and in January started working part time for the Metro Nashville Sheriff's Department teaching GED classes. A position he held until May of 2016.

When he first moved to Nashville, he played trumpet with the American Legion Post Five band for several years traveling with the group to several national conventions. Hunter enjoyed the outdoors and when his children were small, took up riding a bicycle. He pedaled many miles on the backroads of Davidson, Williamson and Rutherford Counties. After retiring, he realized his ultimate riding dream and made not one, but two coast-to-coast rides across the United States as well as two north to south border to border rides. There were also rides in New England and Nova Scotia, Canada, a ride following some of the same routes of the Tour de France, and his last organized ride was from central Florida to Key West. Tracking his mileage monthly, he estimated he had ridden over 125,000 miles in his biking career.

For many years he played in tennis leagues in Nashville and Williamson County. When he moved to a condo community, he worked with the landscaping, was on the Board of Managers for twelve years and helped in the publication of the community newsletter.

His church was one of the most important factors of his life. Daily Bible reading and study was a part of each day. For over 35 years he taught Sunday school to kindergarten, first and second grade children's groups as well as singing in the church choir for many years.

Hunter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone throughout his life. They took first place in each and everything he did.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Crievewood Baptist Church supporting the Children's Ministry - Next Generation in honor of Hunter's many years working with the children of CBC.

He was laid to rest at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens at a private family service. Visitation will be 12 pm - 2 pm, Monday, February 3 at Crievewood Baptist Church, 480 Hogan Road, Nashville, TN followed by a Memorial Service at 2pm.
