Jack Raymond of Nashville, Tennessee died Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Belmont Village Senior Living Center. He was 94 years old.
Jack made us feel special; he joked and laughed with us; Jack took us back in time with a treasure of memories like when he was a B17 pilot during WWII. He loved our accomplishments; he encouraged us and told us the truth. We all could depend on Jack, and we did.
Born in Ocala, Florida in 1922, Jack grew up in Oneco, FL with his sister, Connie, and his parents Elwood and Ethelyn. The times were simple and lean, and Jack recollected many stories about how they made their own toys, a skill he later used to make wooden stilts and boomerangs for his grandkids. Jack's penchant for frugality and self-sufficiency, and love of the outdoors must have been born in those days.
Jack's father, Elwood, was a mailman who for many years walked down the streets of Oneco with a mail satchel slung over his shoulder. Strong, dependable, and punctual were some of his traits that Jack inherited. Making a living with his feet started early for Jack's father. When he was 16 years old, Elwood toured the country as a professional vaudeville roller skater.
The last two years of Jack's life were comforted by the caregivers at Belmont Village Senior Living and Avalon Hospice. His memory and sense of humor remained sharp as his body weakened. We are grateful for all who supported Jack and became his friends.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Rogers Raymond, parents, Elwood and Ethelyn Raymond and sister, Connie Raymond Darty.
Jack is survived by his son, Don (Donna) and his 4 grandchildren, Allyson, Stefanie, Jason and Bryan Raymond.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 HWY 100 Nashville, TN 37221 on Saturday March 25th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be 2 hours prior, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors.
