Jacquelyn York

June 13, 1935 — July 17, 2018

Born on June 13, 1935

Departed on July 17, 2018

YORK, Jacquelyn Carter, a beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at her daughter's home in Tennessee on July 17, 2018, with her family at her side. Jackie is preceded in death by her father Fred Carter, her mother Mary Elizabeth Carter, and her husband Woody N. York, M.D. She is survived by her sister Jane Carter Neill; her children, Kathleen Loring York Mooney, Kelly Carter York Shiver (Kelly J, Shiver), and Woody Todd York (Kendra H. York); grandchildren Morgan York Mooney, Dana Mooney, Hunter York Shiver, Kennedy Carter Shiver, Michael Lawrence Russell, SaraJeanne Lynn Russell, Evelynn Herrington York; and many nieces and nephews from the York, Carter-Neill and Flynn-Belden families. Jackie graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1953, attended the University of Florida where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and graduated from Florida Southern University. She was a teacher at Chamberlain High School, at schools in Harlem New York, and was a President of the Medical Auxiliary Board. Jackie was a debutant of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, was a MerryMakers sponsor, and was a member of Palma Ceia Country Club and The Yacht Club. Jackie enjoyed traveling as a child with her parents and later loved spending summers with her husband and children at Indian Rocks Beach, Calloway Gardens, and Tennessee. Jackie York was the heart and soul of her family, and will be remembered for her sweetness, selflessness, gentleness, kind spirit, quick wit, grace, elegance and beauty. She was adored by those she touched with her warmth, and those she made giggle during difficult times. Jackie was kind-hearted and had a way of making people laugh and smile. She was the kind of mother every child would want, and was considered a second mother to her children's closest friends. Jackie had a way of making people feel special as she was always focused on what could be done for them, never concerned with herself. She was light-hearted, fun, and was easily tickled at life. Jackie was just so sweet and loveable, as Woody would say, and was deeply loved by her children. The marriage of Woody and Jackie was a true love story that continues to live on, as they are together forever in Heaven. Jackie had a dream in the days before her passing that Woody was coming to get her, and he did. Woody would often sing to Jackie the lyrics "Have I told you lately that I love you?", and those lyrics continue to play in the hearts of Jackie's children in remembrance. As Jackie requested, the family will be celebrating her life in their own special way. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her memory, and carry Jackie and Woody in your hearts with a smile.
