James Alton Johnson, 74, departed this life on June 6, 2015, to be with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Montrose E. and Helen Perdue Johnson. He is survived by a brother, Monty (Sonny) Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Faye Dorman, Nancy Hagelgan and Carol Radestock; and nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Janie.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and was deployed at sea in October 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. From 1964 to 1966, he served in the Naval Reserve. Jim retired in 2007 from Vanderbilt University, where he had worked as an electrician.

Jim loved boating, fishing, following NASCAR and playing golf. After retirement, he took up ballroom and line dancing.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
