NASHVILLE - James Corbett “Thick” Chick passed away June 29th in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 73. He was born to Robert William Chick Sr. and Jeanne Collins Chick in the same city that he would call home for the entirety of his life.
James was a graduate of Vanderbilt University where he was admitted at the age of 16 after graduating from Father Ryan High School. His entrepreneurial instincts resulted in him successfully establishing various businesses in almost every geographic area of historic Nashville.
James was undoubtedly most proud of being a student of the Taylor Hayden Wado Karate Center where he earned his 2nd degree black belt certification after experiencing more than a few bloody noses. He often stated that the mentors he encountered there added greatly to the substance of his life.
An avid craps player, James found delight in calculating mathematical probabilities and even greater delight in winning 5 dollar bets placed on 2,3,12.
James was unfailingly devoted to his friends and large extended family; including his brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, in-laws and ex-laws who all understood they ranked second in importance to his beloved Australian shepherd “Reine”.
All of us will deeply miss his “Andy Griffith style” insights into the difficulties and opportunities life presents. His counsel was widely sought by those around him and treasured by those who understood the wisdom of his words.
James Corbett is survived by his brother Robert William (Leni) Chick, sisters Mary Chick Hill, Jeanne “Rickey” (Kyle Marquardt) Chick, and Anne “Tiny” (Mark) Fernandez.
