James Edward Johnson-age 64, of Nashville, passed on December 8, 2013. Preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Audrey Johnson; survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Sally M. Johnson; sons, Justin E. Johnson and Douglas B. Johnson; granddaughter, Eisley Clair Johnson (Justin); brothers, Terry and Tony Johnson (Sherry);
step-children, Beth Martin (Jane Wood), Jennifer M. Burns (Robert M. Burns), Lt. Col. Michael Martin (Maj. Hillary Martin); step-grandchildren, Kathleen Burns, Sarah Margaret Burns, Sidney Griffin and Griffin Martin.
He was a graduate of Bellevue High School. He graduated from Austin Peay State University. He was a founding member the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter at APSU.
He worked in a variety of interesting and unique positions early in life. He was a teacher, a professional football player (defensive back) for the Jacksonville Sharks of the World Football League, and a professional diver on the famous Steel Pier in Atlantic City, N.J. For many years later in life, he was the owner and operator of J & J Painting Contractors, Inc., having many long time and repeat clients throughout the Nashville area.
He was known and loved for his gentle kindness, generosity, and friendship to many. He was one person who could truly say he never met a stranger.
Visitation will be Friday, December 13, 2-7 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, Highway 100. Funeral and graveside services will follow on Saturday, December 14 at noon.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to St. Henry Catholic Church-Nashville.
