James Arvile Hite, age 66 of Whites Creek, died Tuesday, January 10 at his home.

James was born April 30, 1950 in Monterey, TN and was the son of the late Clyde Ray and Aline Abston Hite. Though he had worked in several fields, most recently he owned his own company working in asphalt repair.

He loved fishing and was a talented tinkerer. Describing his talent, his family recalled the popsicle log cabin with furniture and electricity that James built. He was known to find scrap material and create something special, workable, from it. James always had a smile on his face and was quick to offer you something to eat as soon as you entered his home. He cared about others and never met a stranger. He loved his family and cherished his precious mother.

Preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Hershel, James is survived by his wife of 46 years Bonnie Tresner Hite; his son: Jeffrey (Melissa) Hite of Fairview; grandson: Spencer Hite; granddaughter: Taylor Dickerson: and 2 brothers: Vestle Hite of Madison and Donnie (Christeen) Hite of Monterey. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hite, Bobby Tresner, Robert Tresner, Donnie Abston, John D. Clintsman and Greg Elmore.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, January 13 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday, January 14 from 12 noon - 1:00 PM at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, officiated by John Clintsman. Burial will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
