James W. McCown - Age 68, of Fairview, passed away September 13, 2017.

James McCown was born at Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville TN on February 24, 1949. He grew up and attended Fairview schools until he moved to Nashville his senior year and graduated from West End High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Navy after his graduation, and was a Vietnam Veteran. James served the military for a total of 10 years. While attending Palm Beach Junior College, he had won numerous games when competing in the annual PBJC chess tournaments and was a member of various chess clubs in Florida and Tennessee. James met the love of his life and wife of 37 years from writing in a Sheela Wood (newspaper) pen-pal ad while being stationed in Iceland. He enjoyed oldies music, classic movies, traveling the world, camping, and was a very honest, loyal man that loved his family with all of his heart.

Preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Robertson McCown & Frank Edward McCown, Sr., sister, Lynn Henderson. Survived by his wife of 37 years, Cathy J. McCown; son, David J. McCown (Julie E. Reinitz, Fiancée); grandchildren, Ava Reinitz & Isaac E. McCown; brother, Frank E. McCown, Jr; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
