Staff Sergeant (ret.) James Edward (Jim) Page, 89, of Nashville, TN earned his angel wings on Monday, March 1, 2021. Jim was a decorated veteran who served in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He spent four years stationed in Germany and was assigned to several domestic posts. Jim achieved paratrooper status, and served in both the 101st Airborne Division (The Screaming Eagles), specializing in air assault operations, and the 82nd Airborne Division (All American Division, Guard of Honor), specializing in parachute assault operations into denied areas. He completed more than 300 successful jumps during his military career. Upon retirement in 1969, Sgt. Page became an active member of the US Army Reserves.
The oldest of three children, Jim was born November 29 1931 in Nashville, TN to his parents Baz Lefette (Jack) and Etta Mai (Hamilton) Page. He enlisted in the Army in 1949, at the age of 17. After completing basic training, he was deployed to Korea. Upon his return to the states, Jim wed Helen Oats on March 2, 1951. Jim and Helen’s parents were friends and the couple had known one another since childhood. They had three children, James Edward (Jimmy) Page Jr., Bonnie Page Ashworth, and Andrew Miller Page.
After retiring, Jim and his family returned to Nashville. Jim began a second career as a tool and die machinist at Aladdin Industries, where he remained until retiring in 1998. When he wasn’t working, you might find him tending to his garden or fishing. He was an avid reader and puzzle solver. He usually carried a book of crossword puzzles, either in-hand or tucked in his back pocket.
Jim was a loving husband and father, and a brave and honorable soldier. He joins his wife, Helen, son, Jimmy, son-in-law Aubrey (Audie) Ashworth, parents Jack Page and Etta Mai Maupin, stepfather Charlie Maupin, and sister Betty Dorris Dixon. He is survived by two children, daughter Bonnie Ashworth and son Andrew Page, four grandchildren, Heather Page, Micyl Page, Maggie Ashworth, Aubrey Ashworth, one great-grandson Carson Page, sister Ethel Sterry. two brothers-in law, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews,
