James Alton Scott, Sr., 69, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Sunday, October 27, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Better known as Jimmy, he is survived by his children, Kimberly Scott Collins of Surprise, Arizona; James Alton Scott, Jr. of Cookeville, Tennessee and wife, Erica; and Nathan Scott and wife, Katie of Ashland City, Tennessee; five grandchildren: Shelby Scott, Trey Scott, Kennedy Collins, Jacob Scott and Taylor Mac Scott; sisters Ann Bates and Marlene Belcher, brother Lindel Scott and wife, Patricia and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Alton Scott and Mabel Cripps; sister, Betty Campbell and brother Kenneth Scott.
Born in Ardmore, Alabama, Jimmy enjoyed living in and around Nashville, Tennessee most of his life. He was loved by his neighbors at the Gables in Cookeville in his later years.
As a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army and retired VA employee, Jimmy will be laid to rest at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on McCrory Lane in Nashville following a graveside service on October 31, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow at Charlotte Road Baptist Church. Harpeth Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jimmy chose to donate his organs and tissues to science in hopes of advancing Huntington's Disease research and saving others. Memorial donations to the Huntington's Disease Society of America are encouraged in lieu of flowers. Jimmy would love for all to know he is "fine and dandy" and in a better place.
