James Elmer Smith, Jr.

 Mr. James Elmer Smith, Jr. passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the age of 84 years. 

James was born in Bolton, Mississippi and attended Mississippi State University. After college, he followed a career in the engineering field. James married the love of his life, Janet Todd, and in retirement, moved to live closer to their daughter, Ashley, and her family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and was known to carry strong Christian principals and a humorous wit.

James is preceded in death by his parents, James Elmer Smith, Sr. and Bernice Rube Smith; sisters, Jeannine Hamon and Dolly Ann Weger. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mrs. Janet Todd Smith; daughter, Ashley Smith Hempfling (Blaine); grandsons, Ethan and Isaac Hempfling; sisters, Marguerite Vance, Patsy Girard; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. 

Visitation for Mr. Smith will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN on Saturday, February 8, 2025. 

The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel and interment will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
