Jeannette Simpson Andrews, age 90, of Brentwood, TN, suffered a heart attack and passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 with her husband of 61 years, John Stevens "Steve" Andrews, Jr., at her bedside. She is also survived by her children, Mary Andrews Patterson (Ward W. Patterson), Jeannette Andrews Milholland (Robert C. Schmidt), Elizabeth "Betty" Stratton Andrews (Nancy K. Witherell), and John Stevens Andrews III (Desiree Andrews); grandchildren, Julia "Lee" Patterson McIlvaine, Ward W. Patterson IV, Robert J. Milholland, Eva Y. Milholland, Wiley F. Bellen, Natalia Andrews, John Stevens Andrews IV; and great-grandchildren, Lorelei McIlvaine, Alexander McIlvaine, Aysha Milholland, and Forrest Milholland.

After growing up in Raleigh, NC, Jeannette graduated from North Carolina State with a degree in Agricultural Chemistry. She met her husband Steve there while he was pursuing his doctorate degree. After graduation, they lived briefly in Los Angeles, CA, followed by North Reading, MA and then Nashville, TN. Jeannette had a long career as a mathematics teacher, first in North Reading and later in Nashville. There she first taught at the Peabody Demonstration School, and then went on to teach geometry at the Harpeth Hall School, inspiring girls for nearly 20 years. After retirement, she spent many years keeping the books at her good friend Phyllis Pennington's New Focus photography lab, and later volunteered at the Harpeth Hall alumni office.

An avid gardener, Jeannette loved to spend hours in the garden and greenhouse, where she knew the names and habits of everything that grew there, as well as the birds and animals that came to visit. She was deeply devoted to her family and delighted in cooking for them, preparing both adventuresome new dishes and old favorites.

She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
