Jennifer Anne Beck passed away October 2, 2017, in her home at the age of 35. She is survived by her parents: Warren and Debbie Beck; her brother: David Beck with wife Jennifer; her sister: Kathleen Holland with husband Corey; and Nana: Mary Beck. She was a wonderful, loving aunt to her nieces and nephews: Riley, Jessica, Justin, Joshua and Jason. Jennifer deeply impacted her extended family and she was well aware of their deep love for her. These include Matthew McGill and wife Doreen with cousins Kevin and Kaitlyn, Lynn McGill, James Beck and wife Marta with cousins Gabriella and Mariella, Kenneth Beck with wife Joanne and cousins Caitlyn and Courtney, and Gustave Beck.
Jennifer was born on June 11, 1982 in Belleville, New Jersey; the second child and first girl for Warren and Debbie. At the age of six, Jennifer moved to Nashville, TN, which she would call home for the rest of her life. Jennifer attended St. Henry School and graduated in 1996, having formed friendships that would last the rest of her life. Jennifer attended high school at St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville. Here, Jennifer excelled both academically and socially. School was easy for Jennifer, which allowed her to focus on becoming an excellent volleyball player, participate in track & field, take part in SCA plays and ultimately leading the school as senior class president.
Following high school, Jennifer briefly attended Saint Louis University before settling in at Vanderbilt University's Peabody School. Jennifer earned her teaching degree at Vanderbilt and went on to become a brilliant grade school teacher. With Jennifer's credentials, she had the opportunity to teach at some of Nashville's finest schools; but that was not Jennifer's passion. True to form, Jennifer went on to teach at inner city schools, where she impacted the lives of children from Nashville's toughest neighborhoods. Jennifer loved the kids she taught and endured situations at her schools that only a women with her passion could tolerate. Jennifer often touted the accomplishments of her students; most recently through a significant increase in the schools standardized test scores.
Jennifer Anne Beck was one of the most caring, selfless and compassionate women you could meet. Jennifer knew no bounds when it came to race, religion, sexuality, economics or politics. She was as strong willed as they come - nobody could tell Jennifer what to do. Jennifer would put everybody before herself, often times defying advice from friends and family in favor of compassion and giving. Jennifer left this world better than she found it, having made a positive impact and providing opportunity to so many people that society would write off. May she rest in peace in Heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Saturday, October 7th at St. Henry Catholic Church with burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday 4:00pm -7:00pm at St. Henry.
