Joe Laws

Joseph Vernon Laws, 85, passed away Monday April 03, 2023 at Alive Hospice, Nashville TN.

The family will welcome visitors at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens, located at 9090 Highway 100, Nashville TN 37221. Visitation will be Thursday April 6th between 8:30am – 9:30am. Service 9:30am – 10:30am with Burial immediately following.

Joe was born in Huntingdon TN on December 22nd 1937 as the 11th of 12 children to the parents of Goethe and Sophia Laws. He joined the National Guard at age 16 and served 5 years. At 18, he moved to Chicago IL and resided there for 48 years (1955-2002). He retired from Northwestern Memorial Hospital as an Engineer with 29 years before he retired to his hometown of Huntington TN and later moved to Bellevue TN to be closer to his daughter, Rhonda.

Joe leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Veneta. His daughter, Rhonda (Steve), 2 Grandchildren, Aaron and Brooks Morris, 1 Great Grandchild, Camilo Morris. 2 sisters, Juanita McCord and Evola Thompson. Pre-ceded by brothers/sisters Doye, Homer, Violet Lucetta, Irene, Odell, Dorthy, Waldon, John and Wilburn.

Joe enjoyed the outdoors which included camping and fishing. He truly loved his pets, especially dogs and welcomed all neighboring dogs to come visit.

Joe will be truly missed and always remembered as “The Dog Man”
