Joe E. Sanders, age 93, of Fairview, passed away on April 23, 2018 in the comfort of his home.

A lifelong patriot to his country, Joe Sanders served in the United States Army during WWII in the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.

After serving in the war, he worked as a conductor for the L&N Railroad. He retired after 33 years of service.

Joe was a patient and creative man. In his spare time, he enjoyed crafting wooden replicas of trains, automobiles, and trucks. He also enjoyed gardening, watchmaking, and building fishing lures.

Joe is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 71 years, Mary Nell Sanders; his son, Tommy Ray Sanders; daughter-in-law, Frances Elaine Sanders; parents, Emory Iora Sanders and Josie Phine Green Sanders; siblings, Emory Sanders, Ora Brock, and Barbara Moran.

He is survived by his loving granddaughters, Cheryl Bates (Darrel) and Michelle Sanders Brinson; great grandchildren, Kayla Walden (Joel), Noelle Bates, and Jadon Brinson; nephew, Robert Brock (Ann Marie), and many other extended nieces, nephews, and family members.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 25th with visitation one hour prior at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN 37221. 615-646-9292, www.harpethhills.com.
