John Neil Vincent Anderson, affectionately known as "St. John", passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 12, 2015. Born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1925, John attended Oberlin College in Ohio. He entered the United States Naval Air Corps in 1943 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in 1946. John entered Vanderbilt after his service where he played football, graduating with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and was married to the late Malinda Boyd Wells of Mayfield, KY for 51 years.
His career began at Equitable Securities where he was Vice President and continued at Murray Ohio where he was President, CEO, and Board member. John was a member of Belle Meade Country Club serving as Vice President and on the Board of Directors, also serving on the boards of Nashville Bank and Trust, Third National Bank and the Boys and Girls Club. He was a member of the Master Chefs Club of Nashville, taught Bible class and was head of Fund Raising and Chairman of the Administrative Board at West End United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his second wife, McAlister Webb Anderson; his children: John Neil Anderson (Missy) of Atlanta, Hugh Wells Anderson (Katy), Katherine Anderson Sheesley (Ken); grandchildren Dr. David Neil Anderson (Stacy) of NYC, Katherine Elizabeth Anderson (Patrick Puckett) of Athens, GA; Blake Bearden Anderson of Charleston, SC; Rachel Wells Anderson, Madelaine Kate Sheesley of Berlin, Germany; and (Buck) Kenneth Davis Sheesley, Jr., and two step-children, Minos L. Fletcher IV (Denise) and Barry McAlister Fletcher of Huntly, VA, one step grandchild Franklin Webb Furbush, and one great granddaughter, Arianna Eva Anderson.
The entire family will sorely miss our Papa, a man of great integrity, compassion, eternal joy and optimism, love and wonderful faith in God.
Visitation will be held at 1 pm Sunday, February 15, at West End United Methodist Church, 2200 West End Ave., Nashville, TN, 37203 followed by a celebration of life at 2 pm. The burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to West End United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
