John W. Bates, age 75, of Fairview went to be with his heavenly father Thursday, May 28, 2020. He was born July 26, 1944 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Raymond and Oleafa Bates. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Delores Decker and brother, Raymond Renner Bates Jr.

John was married for 56 years to the love of his life, Patricia Pewitt Bates. In 1987 they opened Bates Printing in Franklin which later moved to Fairview. Bates Printing was closed in 2011 due to John's 20 battle with Parkinsons. John and Patricia would spend leisure time Crappie fishing and preparing fish frys for their employees.

John is survived by his wife, Patricia Pewitt Bates; daughter, Dana Buttrey (Bruce); son, Darrel Bates (Cheryl); grandson, Brian Buttrey; granddaughter, Shelby Buttrey; granddaughter, Erin Tuley (Travis); grandson, Alex Bates; and sister, Virginia Wyatt.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 31st and from 9-10 a.m. Monday June 1st at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2020 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with Bruce Buttrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Peace of Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
