John H. Woodard Sr.

John H. Woodard Sr., age 97, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. He was born in Carol County, Tennessee on August 16, 1926, to the late Elmer Woodard and Retha Woodard Collins. John attended high school in Clarksburg, Tennessee and continued his education in Jackson, Tennessee at West Tennessee Business College.

John will be remembered as a true gentleman that loved and cared for people. He was able to show this in his career as a glass salesman for many years. John also loved his family and sharing his knowledge and interests. He enjoyed learning about American history, reading non-fiction, and tending to his farm in West Tennessee. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Air Force National Guard. Later in life, he became a member of the Shriners and a Mason. 

John is preceded in death by his parents listed above, his son, John H. Woodard Jr., and sister, Ann Middleton.

With seventy years of marriage, John is survived by his loving wife, Willena Wilson Woodard. He is also survived by his sister, Silvia Leslie; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or Alive Hospice of Nashville, Tennessee. 

A visitation will be held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 11:30am until the hour of service. The funeral service will begin at 1:30pm in the chapel with burial to follow. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Leslie, Brit Leslie, Mark Middleton, Ethan Middleton, David Jones, Stanley Coffman.
