Judith Ann Hill Bivens, age 86, of Brentwood, Tennessee passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
Judy was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on August 22, 1931. She met her husband Don at the Soil Conservation Service office in Cookeville where they both worked while attending Tennessee Technological University. After their marriage in 1951, they began their life together and raised their family moving across the country to New Jersey, back to Tennessee in Jonesborough and Gainesboro, Paoli and Carmel Indiana, Columbia Missouri, Boulder Colorado, Portland Oregon and back to Tennessee in 1975 where they settled down for over 40 years. Judy was a devoted mother and nana, homemaker, kindergarten teacher, Girl Scout leader, gardener, baker, seamstress, quilter, bridge player, realtor, friend and mentor. She was active with the Forest Hills United Methodist Church with the UMW, the quilting group, her Sunday school class, the bazaar and crafts group and she also volunteered at the Warner Park Nature Center at the front desk and on sewing, baking and crafts projects. Judy was a mother to many and made everyone feel welcome. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being at home, traveling, camping, being outdoors and vacationing in Destin. She will be remembered for her bright blue eyes, warm smile and loving support of others.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Donald C. Bivens, her parents Franklin Holmes Hill and Edna Dowell Hill, her brother John Holmes Hill of Cookeville, her two sisters Tommye Morton of Memphis and Helen Phillips of Pleasant Hill, California.
She is survived by her four daughters Sandy Bivens (Bob Parrish), Susan Bush (Gary), Donita Powell (Bill), and Sara Beth Schwab; her seven grandchildren Tanner Bush (Nichole), Eric Bush, Kyler Bush (Felicia), Jillian Westervelt (Norman), Alec Schwab, Nate Schwab, and Ben Schwab; her nine great- grandchildren Taylor Bush, Bella Bush, Mae Bush, Lila Bush, Zoey Bush, Atlas Bush, Evelyn Bush, James Westervelt and Liam Westervelt; her brothers Bobby Hill and Kenny Hill of Cookeville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family sincerely wishes to thank Terry Nightwine and Sandy Redferrin for the good care and love they gave to Judy and Don and to the caring staff at Abe's Garden for the support and love they gave to Judy and her family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on at Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Henry Catholic Church with visitation from 11:30am to 1pm and the service at 1:00pm. Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at the Warner Park Nature Center.
A private family burial will be on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Hill Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee.
