Judith Ann Turk
Born March 3, 1941 in Bloomington, IL, passed away June 18, 2019 at the age of 78.
She graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in home economics and minor in journalism, and completed graduate work in Journalism/Public Relations at Michigan State University.
Ms. Turk enjoyed a more-than-40-year career in information services and public relations, with work largely focused in education, medical services, and the arts. A gifted writer and organizer, she was adept at producing savvy and impactful news and information materials as well as planning and coordinating efforts to reach intended publics.
She began her professional career at Michigan State University in Information Services, later serving as Assistant to former MSU President Clifton R. Wharton. After a move in the 1980s she served as practice development director for the Eye Center of Central Texas and volunteered for several area arts and cultural organizations. She served as president of the Handweavers Guild of Central Texas; editor for the Cultural Activities Center of Temple, TX; and president of the Temple Association for Gifted.
An active supporter of the Nashville arts community for many years, Ms. Turk has served as newsletter editor for the Travellers Rest Historic Home Museum and the Handweavers Guild of Nashville.
Ms. Turk is survived by her husband Thomas L. Turk of Nashville; daughter Tisha Turk, Grinnell, IA; son Benjamin Turk, Long Beach, CA; brother Ron Prochnow, Bloomington, IL; sister-in-law Jane Schlansker, Fort Worth, TX; several nieces, cousins and special Nashville friends.
A celebration of Judith Turk's life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 20 at the Harpeth Hill Memorial Garden pavilion. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift to Tennessee Craft or a charity of choice will be gratefully appreciated.
