Larry Joseph Adkins age 77, passed away on March 7, 2021 after battling Pulmonary Fibrosis. Larry was a retired firefighter with the Metropolitan Nashville Fire Department, where he dedicated 47 years of his life, 23 years fighting fire and 24 years in administration as a Captain (Logistics). Larry was a kind and caring man and he loved me and his family most of all. He loved us with his whole heart and unconditionally. He lived and breathed the fire department and he and his best buddy Gary Hargis, Sr. worked tirelessly for the special Olympics. He loved golf and he genuinely loved his golf buddies.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jerri Lowell, father, Joe Wright Adkins, grandparents, Stella and Joe Adkins and a special aunt, Colleen Baird. He is survived his wife, Betty Joyce Adkins, sister, Donna Kay Clark, brother, Robbie Adkins, son, Terry Wayne (Donna) Adkins, daughter, Sherry (David) Hilger, son, Stephen Duane (Kate) Pace. He was also a “larger than life” PeePaw to 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday March 10, 2021 from 12-8 PM at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home and on Thursday March 11 from 9:30-11:30 AM at Highland Park Church with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Highland Park Church 5710 Knob Rd. Nashville, TN 37209. Interment will follow in the Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
