Lawrence Homer "Larry" Leake, age 85 of Franklin, passed away May 20, 2017 at Williamson Medical Center.
A native of Toledo, OH, Larry was the third of four sons of Walter Edward Leake and Ida Sexton Lotz Leake.
Larry was a graduate of the University of Toledo, where he completed his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and was elected Chapter President of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He began working for Ford Motor Company before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served his country during the Korean War, stationed in Japan. Following his time of service, he returned to Ford. He then was employed with International Chemical before launching out on his own as the Founder, President and CEO of Energy Command Corporation in 1979.
As retirement approached, Larry sold his company to his two sons, who continue in their father's footsteps today.
Larry has been active in the Kiwanis Club for over 40 years, honored as a Legion of Honor Member. He was involved with the Lutheran Layman's Ministry of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Nashville and a co-founder of Christian Home Ministries. There he mentored participants in personal business skills.
In his free time he loved to play tennis and golf, eat strawberry ice cream and was particular about his dry martini with three olives.
He loved to work and play, and enjoyed a very active social life. He found joy in entertaining friends and family as often as possible, and after the passing of his wife, he took pleasure in traveling and spending time with Joanne Morgenstern and family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years: Madelyn Leake in 2012; and two brothers: Albert and Edward Leake.
Larry is survived by his three children: Lawrence Jeffrey Leake, Sr, Karen Marie Leake Smith and Steven Scott Leake; 8 grandchildren: Larry Jr., Matthew, Kelly, Chad, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Andrew and Lindsey; 7 great-grandchildren: Stella Grace, Nora Ann, Lila Kate, Lexi, Jackson, Julia and Raleigh; and a brother: Bill Leake.
The family will receive friends at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Franklin Rd on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM for visitation. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment, with military honors, will take place at 2:00 PM at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
