Larry Moore Parker, age 73 of Brentwood, TN passed away Monday, December 7, 2020.
Preceded in death by parents, Robert Parker and Myrtle Ray Parker and brother Steve Parker.
There are no words to express what the heart knows and feels about Larry, my husband and best friend for 51 years. He was a wonderful
husband, father (Dad) to Lisa (Casey) Shacklett and Gregory Parker and grandfather (Papa) to Carson, Grant and Haylie Shacklett; brother-in-law to Bonnie (Steve) Parker and Uncle to their children Steve(Deanna)Parker, Matthew(Morgan) Parker and Kellie(Matt)Pomerenke and their families; brothers-in-law to Dennis(Kara)Stockard and Bobby(Jennifer)Stockard and their families and many special cousins. There are too many wonderful friends and neighbors to mention...you know who you are and that you have been a very special part of his life.
He was born and raised in Nashville graduating West End High School in 1965 as a proud "Bluejay" as a true scholar and athlete where he loved playing basketball and football, junior high through high school where he played quarterback his senior year. He excelled both on and off the field. He furthered his education on scholarship at Vanderbilt University where he received his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.
Ultimately these attributes led him to his chosen career in the investment business as a Certified Financial Planner which began at Merrill Lynch in 1973, to Legg Mason Wood Walker, and presently to Stephens, Inc. as Senior Vice President, Private Client Group. He loved every minute of working with his clients, and appreciated his dear friend and Assistant, Suzanne Fraliex who has worked by his side for the last 20 years, as well as other long-time colleagues, Ed Stuart, Tom Zeuthen, his business partner, and all his business colleagues whom he enjoyed working with over the past 47 years.
His greatest joys and blessings were spending time hiking The Appalachian Trail with Greg, where they started in Springer Mt. Georgia, section hiking over 300 miles of the 2,190 mile journey; spending time, cheering on and being present at every baseball, basketball and football game that Carson and Grant played; and attending every dance recital and school program Haylie performed in; being at the beach house with the family riding the waves, watching the fireworks on the fourth of July, and eating crab legs on the balcony with his buddy, our doberman Jake by his side. And then there were the Titans games, Vandy baseball and going to Omaha for the World Series Championship game...so much more!
I picture him now standing on top of Mount Katahdin holding our love in his heart, reflecting on the scripture, 2Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith."
Visitation with the family will be on Monday December 14 from 3:30-5:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 5:00 PM at. Brentwood Baptist Church.
