Butler, Larry Winston, age 73 passed away Sunday, Feb 19, 2023 after a brief illness.
Larry was born April 22, 1949, to the late Bennie Winston and Sarah Elizabeth (Ward) Butler. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his first wife Theresa Harrington Butler and grandsons Brady and Ben Butler.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pam Butler; sons Michael (Kayce) Butler, Josh (Wendy) Baker, Jay Baker; daughters Anna (Matt) Sands and Amy Baker (John Stewart); brother Donnie (Cheryl) Butler; sister Connie (Randy) Hall; 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Larry proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the Tennessee State Library and Archives where he worked for over 30 years. Pam and Larry enjoyed their first 5 ½ years of retirement living in their cozy little cabin in the Smoky Mountains which was a special time in their lives.
Larry had many loves and interests including the UT Vols, Civil War History, metal detecting, rock music, spicy foods, fishing, and a big hearty Southern breakfast. He especially enjoyed his Thursday morning breakfast each week with daughter, Anna.
Larry was a devoted and “cool” Papaw to all of his grandchildren who simply adored him. He was a man of few words, but he loved greatly and unconditionally, and he will be forever missed. Larry was recently baptized and gave his life to Christ. Until we see him again we hope he is in his recliner in heaven watching a football game and eating a bowl of his famous chili.
