Mr. Leo Eugene Brooks, the son of the late Leo Brooks and Isabelle Brooks-Bassett, was born June 14, 1937 in Gary, IN. He also resided in St. Louis, MO, Bellevue, IL and Murfreesboro, TN.
He confessed his belief in Christ and was baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ at Zion Temple Apostolic Church, Gary, IN, where he became a member.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as Airman Basic. Mr. Leo Brooks served from 1954 o 1958 and received an Honorable Discharge. In February 2013 he was acknowledged and awarded the Ambassador for Peace for his contributions during the Korean War.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Margaret Ann Brooks where he had two children, Edward Darren Brooks, (Gary, IN) and Cathaleen Elaine (Gerald) King (Murfreesboro, TN). He later married Mary Brooks (deceased) where he had 3 children, Sheri (Willie) Willingham, George (Tangela) Brooks and Chad Brooks, Armagene Smith, June Brooks, Patre'cia Wood, Crystal Brooks and Leonard Green.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, three sisters, Barbara Brooks-Booth, Gary, IN; Joan Hurston-Brown, Atlanta, GA; Gwendolyn Brooks-Lee (deceased), one brother, Wallace H. Brooks, Atlanta, GA; and a host of grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A life celebration service will be at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 11 am - 12 pm at HARPETH HILLS FUNERAL HOME 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville (615) 646-9292. www.afamilylegacy.com
