LOFTUS ANDREW MORRISSEY, JR. "Dutch" Age 93

Passed away June 24, 2016. Preceded in death by loving wife of 64 years Marie Gibson Morrissey; mother, Mary Bell Howell Morrissey; father, Loftus Andrew Morrissey Sr.; sister, Jeanne Hunter; brother, Joseph Lawrence Morrissey and son, Loftus Andrew Morrissey III. Survived by children, Pam Kennedy (Allen), Kevin Morrissey (Pam), James Morrissey (Denise), Marcia Newman (Danny) and Gina Miller (Brad); daughter-in-law, Lisa Morrissey; brother, James Gilbert Morrissey (Carmen); grandchildren, Andrew Morrissey (Ashley), Katie Armstrong (Jim), Brad Kennedy (Lillie), Jennifer and Kevin Morrissey, Matt, Jordon and Myles Morrissey, Sarah Schmidt (Ben), Jeff Newman (Rebecca), Todd, Katelyn, Grant and Anna Grace Miller; as well as six great-grandchildren.

Dutch graduated from Duncan Preparatory School. He was a Kappa Sigma at Vanderbilt University, where he studied Aeronautical Engineering. When World War II started he enlisted in the US Navy and was quickly recognized for his proficiency in math, whereupon the Navy sent him to Notre Dame and Georgia Tech for further training. When the war escalated he saw combat in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Block Island. At war's end he assumed leadership of the family business, Morrissey Meats and Provisions.

Dutch and Marie were among the founding members of St. Matthew Catholic Church, where Dutch served as a Eucharistic minister and lector; they were also among the founders of St. Matthew School.

Dutch was a consummate storyteller. His many interests included golf, thoroughbred racing, fishing at Clearwater Beach, keeping up with Navy buddies and supporting Vanderbilt athletics where he and his brother, Joe, were recipients of the Commodore Club Award. But his favorite activity by far was enjoying his family, especially at his renowned cookouts.

Visitation will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Monday, June 27 from 10:00 to 11:15, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Cecilia Academy, 4210 Harding Rd., Nashville, TN 37205; St. Matthew Catholic Church, 535 Sneed Rd., Franklin, TN 37069; St. Matthew School, 533 Sneed Rd., Franklin, TN 37069; Alive Hospice, Inc., 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.
