Lon "Wesley" Vaughn was born in Nashville on August 6, 1940 to Ruby Burklow Vaughn and Jesse Dalton Vaughn, Sr. He was the sixth child of eleven. Wesley died on August 24, 2020 at his home in Dickson, TN.
Wesley was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and retired from Bellsouth/AT&T after 25 years in the telecommunication field. He was a member of the Communication Workers of America Union and a dedicated environmental activist, most notably as a founding member of B.U.R.N.T. in Nashville, TN.
Wesley loved to travel, and had visited all 50 states and several foreign countries. He loved the outdoors, was an avid reader, appreciated a cold "adult beverage", and was deeply devoted to his family.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Joyce Hardiman, David Vaughn, John "Billy" Vaughn, Douglas Vaughn, and Wayne Vaughn. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Joyce Sullivan Vaughn of Dickson, TN, his daughters Laura (Frank) Cantrell and Susan (Charlie) Brown, both of Nashville, TN. In addition, his granddaughters Chelsea Stanfill, Casey Stanfill, Kylie Stanfill, Caroline Brown and Lydia Brown, and his great-grandchildren Lillian Stanfill, Sofia Sarmento, Camden Chambers, and Easton Sarmento, all of Nashville, TN. Wesley is also survived by his siblings Dalton Vaughn of Dover, TN, Randall (Susanna) Vaughn of Goodlettsville, TN, Rosalyn (Donald) Moss of Mt. Juliet, TN, Sharon (Dennis) Stone of Jacksonville, FL, Carmen Adkisson of Kingston Springs, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Nature Conservancy.
