Lucius Wyman Carroll II, of Nashville, TN, died peacefully on Christmas Day in the loving arms of his family. He was 77.

A direct descendant of the first Carroll family to settle in America in 1628, Lucius was born on April 14, 1941, in Norwich, CT, to the late George Wyman Carroll, Jr. and Sarah Ellen (Blaisdell) Carroll. He spent his childhood in their family home, built in 1849 by his great-grandfather and namesake.

Lucius arrived in Nashville in September 1959 to attend Vanderbilt University, his alma mater. While he remained a New Englander at heart, spending summers on the Penobscot Bay in Castine, ME, he quickly became a pillar of the Nashville community.

Lucius was a lifetime automobile aficionado. Early in his career, he founded Carco Auto Lease. The company eventually merged with Leaseco, Inc., where Lucius served as executive vice president.
After nearly two decades in the auto industry, Lucius looked toward Nashville's burgeoning healthcare field. In 1986, he was hired as vice president of marketing of Baptist Hospital (now St. Thomas Midtown), and soon promoted to executive vice president. Lucius was recruited by Columbia/HCA (now HCA Healthcare) and joined the company in 1996 as corporate senior vice president.
In his later years, Lucius founded L.W. Carroll and Co., a healthcare consulting company. While continuing in this role, he teamed with five other local businesspeople to form Innovative Health Partners in 2002.
Lucius will be especially remembered for his love of helping others. He was passionate about mentoring young people in the business community and supporting social causes. Throughout his life, Lucius sat on myriad non-profit boards, including the American Heart Association, where he acted as chairman. He was a longtime member of St. George's Episcopal Church and several civic clubs.
Lucius was also known for his warm smile, his love of Old Spice aftershave, and his red Thunderbird convertible - which he enjoyed driving with the top down, even in December.

Lucius is survived by wife Lucie Miller Carroll; sons Lucius W. Carroll III (wife Revell), Christopher A. Carroll, and Adams P. Carroll III (wife Paula Zamora); daughters Sarah Carroll Andrews (husband Philip) and Catherine Carroll (husband Sam Wilson); granddaughters Sarah Carroll and Aby Carroll; twin sister Sarah "Sally" Herring; and brother Adams P. Carroll II (wife Janet Wu); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews who adored him.
Along with his parents, Lucius's brother, Ira Greene Briggs Carroll, Sr., and half-siblings, George Wyman Carroll III and Marie-Louise Carroll Escher, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Hampton Hall at St. George's Episcopal Church, followed by funeral services at 11:30am in the nave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. George's Episcopal Church Benevolence Fund, 4715 Harding Road, Nashville, TN 37205.
