Lucy Beatrice Tutor Gowin slipped peacefully away to be with her Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of December 18th, 2016.She was born on October 10th, 1931,in Craggie Hope Tennessee,to her parents LyCurgus and Carrie Cathey Tutor,who predecease her.
She grew up during the Great Depression but always viewed her childhood through the idyllic lens of having been blessed to be born into a loving,caring family in the most beautiful place on earth, her beloved Craggie Hope. As her mother and grandmother before her,she loved taking care of and being part of The Craggie Hope Methodist Church (now Craggie Hope United Methodist Church). She married WWII Veteran James M. Gowin in 1947 and was widowed in 2004. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. She was able to be home with her children and later in life she worked in a daycare center, retail store (Bernies) and eventually kept children in her home and she loved them all. Throughout her life, she was active in the church, working tirelessly on fundraisers along with her dearest friend, Clarine Parman, who predeceased her.
She is survived by her five children, Connie Stewart (Bill Darne), Marion Eliasen(widow of Ivan), Julie Jones (Larry), Frank Gowin (Sheila),James Gowin (Virgie). She is also survived by her sister, Evie Nell Hall (W.J.) Her two brothers, Harvel and Bobby, predecease her.She is also survived by Melba Isom, Larry Stewart,James Allen; grandchildren Kristin Jackson, Grant Stewart, Melissa Saaedpour, Lucy Allen, Joshua Gowin, Paige Pepperwood, Nikki Gowin. Great grandchildren, Trevor, Asha, Webbie, Abby, Ethan, Samuel and Loa. She is survived by numerous nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service at 1 PM, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Reverend Dale Mills of Craggie Hope United Methodist Church will give the eulogy, with special reminiscences from Lucy's sister, Evie Nell Tutor Hall. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
