Luther was born June 5, 1936 in Elkin, N.C. to Mae Collins Wood and A.W. Wood, and moved to High Point, N.C. as a child. He attended High Point High School and NC State University. While in HS and college, he and 3 friends formed a quartet called "The Garnets" and they tried out for the Arthur Godfrey Talent Show, which was quite an adventure. The group stayed friends for the rest of their lives. In 1958 he joined the Army Nat. Guard and served for four years. He was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church, 1973-1993 and Forest Hills Baptist 1993 to present, with active ministry in a number of areas, participating in a mission trip to Guatemala, helping to build a church among other things.
He loved all kinds of music and enjoyed his time with Capitol Records in sales and promotion over the southeast. In 1973, he was recruited by Country Music artist Sonny James to be his manager. After retiring from the music business, he formed his own picture framing business, which served all the framing needs of the Nashville Titans, Predators plus many Nashville businesses. He loved old houses and spent several years buying and rehabbing many houses and apartment buildings. He also loved woodworking and made furniture. He and Sandra would take walks at Percy Warner and Cheekwood and he knew all the trees by name. His love for antiques is legendary, spending many hours on the hunt for the perfect piece to restore.
He loved his family and friends, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his loving family.
