Manuel Lechuga Moreno was a man who never missed an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen, a story to try and get a laugh. The echo of his voice and laughter can still be heard at every place he visited. He was quite the cook when making menudo, caldo de siete mares, tamales, and a rather large consumption of eggs. Manuel was a loving husband, father, grandfather ‘PoPo’ and friend who will be missed dearly. He was 78 years old.
Manny passed away peacefully at his home in Nashville, TN on Thursday, September 1, 2022 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Teresa Garcia Moreno; three daughters Rosie Clary (Paul), Lily Leffler (Robert) and Elizabeth Upton (Ben); He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Nicholas Jude Spain, Sandra Rose Spain, Jackson Emory Leffler, Isaac Martin Leffler and Isabella Teresa Upton; brother Larry Pena (Anna) and sister Christina Resendez (Rosendo). He was preceded in death by his parents Pauline Lechuga Carter and Casiano Moreno, brothers George, Robert, Willie, Richard, Jimmy & Ronnie.
Born in San Angelo, Texas, on April 4, 1944. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School, worked for many years as a driver for Continental Trailways and later retired from ASARCO. In 1988 Manny moved to Nashville, TN and went to work with Smurfit Corporation and Centennial Hospital.
A brief conversation with Manny would not only leave you smiling but wondering exactly what he did for a living. He was a police office, FBI Agent, Mob Boss, Medical Doctor, or Lawyer. He loved reading and watching Science Fiction and Western books and movies. One thing that couldn’t be forgotten were his weekly lottery tickets.
