Margaret "Gin" Virginia Hart Byrd, age 96, of Franklin went to be with her heavenly father Friday, January 24, 2020. She was born November 24, 1923 in Plant Community, Tennessee to the late Bob and Lucille May. Gin is also preceded in death by the father of her children, A.E. "Gene" Hart; second husband, Maurice Byrd; companion, Grady "Sawbuck" Sawyer; siblings, M.R. May, Melvin May, Ollie "Red" Reed and Macye McCauley.
Gin was the first in her family afforded the opportunity to attend college. She attended UT Martin and majored in home economics. She enjoyed participating in the Meals on Wheels program and was a caretaker for many years. Gin also enjoyed sports, including Titans and UT Football. She was a member of Nashville Squares and really enjoyed square dancing.
Gin is survived by her son, Robert "Bob" Eugene Hart (Cornelia); daughter, Jane Hart Shelby (Ernie); grandsons, Lance Edward Shelby (Leslie) and Matthew Eugene Shelby (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Ellis Grace Shelby, Edward Hawkins Shelby, Savannah Butler Shelby, and Sloan Matthew Shelby.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 28th at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A celebration of life funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with Reverend David Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the garden of Cross at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Donations may be made to Alive Hospice.
