Margaret “Peggy” Goff, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-‐grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born in Seaford, Delaware on August 23, 1931, the only child of Donald Marvil and Mildred Paradee. She spent her youth along the Delmarva Peninsula exploring the beaches of Rehoboth, Bethany, and Ocean City. The beaches of the Atlantic Ocean remained her lifelong joy. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1949. A year later, she married her high-‐school sweetheart and soulmate Robert “Bob” Goff, a marriage that lasted 70 years until Bob’s death in 2020. She is survived by her three daughters, Dixie Goff Grimes (Mike) of Nashville, Tennessee; Peggy Goff Palmer (James) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and Faith Goff Alford (Trey) of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Christa Grimes; Hope Grimes Matthews; Ben Grimes; Matthew Palmer; Julia Palmer Aulicino; Mark Palmer; Meagan Alford; Connor Alford; and her eight great-grandchildren.
Peggy was a dedicated Christian, wife, and mother who served many church of Christ congregations in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Virginia, and Tennessee as a minister’s wife. She retired from South Central Bell, working for over thirty years, first as a Telephone Operator in the 1950’s and finally as a Service Representative in the Directory Department.
Peggy was a gifted pianist and calligrapher. She was admired for her inner and outer beauty, especially her remarkable auburn red hair. Her kindness and grace were unsurpassed. She especially cared for animals, and loved her many dog and cat companions over the years. Her favorite flower was the trailing arbutus. It should be noted that the love story between Peggy and Bob was something of storybooks, and was an inspiration to her family. She met Bob in her eighth grade homeroom class and that was it. Their love lasted a lifetime.
Peggy was a source of never ending comfort to her family and community and she will be dearly missed. The impact of her love and kindness will extend to countless generations. May she enjoy the rewards of a life well lived in heaven. She will live on in our hearts and happiest memories.
