Margaret Rogers Raymond of Nashville, Tennessee died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Belmont Village Assisted Living Center. She was 96 years old, always young at heart, always deeply devoted to her family.
Margaret's name on her birth certificate and marriage certificate is Annie Margaret Raymond, but Annie was not her favorite so she always used Margaret R. Raymond as her name. Later when the actress with a similar name became popular, Margaret would say her name was Ann Margaret. Jack called her Marge, and all of her grandchildren called her "Margie."
Margaret never told her age, and when asked she'd bristle up and say "A girl who tells her age, would tell anything," or less politely might reply, "It's none of your business".
Margaret's father died in 1933 when she was 13 years old in rural Obion County, Tennessee. Afterwards, her mother, with the help of older siblings, nurtured Margaret to be loving, loyal, and always truthful. She adored her mother, and appreciated the sacrifices she made. Margaret frequently mentioned how much her mother meant to her, and she was always close to her brothers and sisters.
She was a dreamer, and for many years exhibited this quality with her acrylic painting of landscape scenes such as the "little cabin by the sea." She enjoyed fashion, and liked to show off now and then. She had "Betty Grable" legs and her hair was never seen gray until 90.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Ethelbert Rogers and Mattie Saunders Rogers; sisters Helen Rogers, Ruth Greer, Virginia Lowe and Kathryn Alford, and brothers Bert Rogers, Harold Rogers, Bill Rogers and Robert Rogers.
She is survived by her husband Jack of 72 years, and her son, Don (Donna Raymond) and her 4 grandchildren, Allyson, Stefanie, Jason and Bryan Raymond.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 HWY 100 Nashville, TN 37221 on Monday May 9th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be 2 hours prior, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Her four grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. Donations can be made to made to St. Henry School, 6401 Harding Rd, Nashville, TN 37205.
