Age 89, passed on to her eternal home on October 8, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Marie devoted herself to her family, and to showing others the love of her Lord Jesus.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Marie married George and together they moved to Iowa, where they had three children. Twenty-five years later, in 1979, they relocated to Tennessee. The adventures of her husband and children became Marie's adventures. Whether fishing in the North woods, sewing costumes for a school play, helping with an Eagle Scout project, carpooling or providing soft drinks for softball games, Marie enjoyed serving her family and "did not eat the bread of idleness".
She did everything with excellence and meticulous attention to detail, to honor her God. She was known for remembering birthdays of family and friends with a thoughtful card and home-baked goodies. Her simple faith and gentle spirit made her a living example of Philippians 2: 3 - 4 "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves....look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." She was grateful for her church families throughout her life.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George Vander Woude, Jr. (2017).
She is survived by son George Vander Woude III and daughter Ann Vander Woude, (both of Nashville); and daughter Lynn Vander Woude - ‘Aho, son-in-law ‘Alefosio ‘Aho and grandson Fungani ‘Aho (missionaries in the Kingdom of Tonga).
