Marion Neubert

April 25, 1941 — November 20, 2024

Marion Brooks Neubert, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. She was born in Vicksburg, MS on April 25, 1941, to Marion Hayes Brooks and Shirley Peck Brooks. She married Hunter Stevens Neubert on March 15, 1964. They have two sons, Eugene Hunter Neubert and Christopher Brooks Neubert, and one grandson, Hunter Stevens Neubert II.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband Hunter, father Marion, mother Shirley, brother John and his wife Sandra, maternal aunt Ruth Peck Byrd and husband James, maternal aunt Allie Peck Barnes and husband CJ, and cousin, Ronald Robinson.

She is survived by sons Eugene (Tara Atwood) of Franklin, TN, Chris of Ft. Myers, FL, and grandson Hunter II of Ft. Myers, FL. She is also survived by niece Lisa (Stuart) Chisolm, nephew David (Laura) Neubert, nephew Hayes (Susanna) Brooks, and niece Lara (Matt) Biggers, as well as some very special ladies Jacqueline, LaShonda, Deritha, and Kim who were caregivers and companions to her during the last years of her life.

After graduating from Mississippi State College for Women in 1963, Marion took her first teaching job in Okolona, MS, where she met Hunter who she was married to for over fifty-five years. They moved to Cleveland, MS in 1965 where she attended Delta State University, graduating with a master's degree in education. They relocated to Nashville, TN in 1968 where she began teaching for Metro Nashville Public Schools that fall, teaching for thirty-two years, thirty of them at McMurray Junior High School, until her retirement in 2001. As a geography and social studies teacher, she enjoyed sharing the history of the world firsthand by leading a trip, or two, abroad each year for students and their families.

After retiring, she continued to give back as an educator, serving as a substitute teacher for several years and volunteering in support of the National Geography Bee for many years. She expanded her love for travel by cruising the world with Hunter and friends, ultimately visiting five continents. The faculty of McMurray were like a second family to Marion, and she enjoyed traveling with the group, large and small, fellowshipping at McMurray Retiree lunches, and playing cards weekly.

After her teaching career, she moved to the retirement community, Morningside, where she resided with her husband for over 20 years. Hunter was involved with the HOA and Marion with the ladies club, helping manage the monthly newsletter, and other social activities. Marion was very involved in the Morningside community and brought joy to everyone there with her.

Marion was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone throughout her life.

Because Marion was a lifelong educator and avid reader, in lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Book'em Nashville in her memory.
