Marjorie McDonald Anderson

Marjorie McDonald Anderson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024. Born on January 13, 1932, in Desser, Georgia, Marjorie lived a life of remarkable dedication to her faith, family, and profession. She was raised in her faith at Salem Seminole Baptist Church in, Donalsonville, Georgia.

Marjorie was a proud graduate of FDR High School (1948) and Martha Berry College, where she met her future husband, James R. Anderson. Their marriage on December 20, 1952, was the beginning of a lifelong journey together. During James's service in the army, Marjorie taught Home Economics in Fort Gaines, Georgia, showcasing her commitment to education and her students.

Following James's return, they relocated to Uriah, Alabama, and later to Plantersville, Alabama, where Marjorie continued her career in education. She briefly worked in the Dallas County High School office and served as a substitute teacher before taking on a teaching position at J.E. Terry Elementary. Marjorie had such a passion for education that continued her college career and earned a Masters degree in childhood education at Troy University. In 1977, the family moved to Troy, Alabama, where Marjorie taught third grade at Troy Elementary School until her retirement.

In 1997, Marjorie and James moved to Kingston Springs, Tennessee, where they became active members of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville. Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through her personal and professional endeavors.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Cathy (Mike Gettle), Dr. Reggie Anderson (Karen), and Tim Anderson (Karen). She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Jenn and Nick LaVigne, Kristen and David Kernaghan, Ashley and Dan Gallun, Julia and Caleb Chapman, David and Ashley Anderson, Lauren and Zach Skinner, and Amanda Anderson; as well as her great-grandchildren Claire and Emma LaVigne, Callum Kernaghan, Noble and Ollie Chapman, August and Addison Gallun, Judah, Elijah, Isaac Anderson, and William Skinner. She is also survived by her sisters, Sophie Earnest and Kate Mitchell.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Anderson; her parents, William H. and Nannie Mae (Faircloth) McDonald; her brothers, Bill McDonald Jr., Ralph McDonald, Grady McDonald, Cecil McDonald, Rudolph McDonald, and Wayne McDonald; and grandchild, Jon Gettle.

The visitation will be 9:00am to 11:00am on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Christ Presbyterian Church at, 2323 Old Hickory Blvd. Nashville, Tn. 37215. The graveside service will be at 11:00am on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Salem Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery.
