Mary Hood Burrough, 65, went to be with her Lord Friday evening after a 10-month battle with recurring cancer. She was a stoic trooper, optimistic to the end.

Raised in Tappahannock, VA on the Rappahannock River, she loved playing the clarinet in the Tappahannock High School Band, both concert and marching bands. She loved parades. She graduated from Tappahannock High School in 1970, and attended Chowan Jr. College in NC, before transferring to Smith Deal Massey Business School in Richmond, VA.

She worked for a couple of years at Richmond Memorial Hospital, before following a friend's suggestion to move to Nashville, TN. After a couple of years at Genesco Insurance, she took a job in nurse scheduling at St. Thomas Hospital, where she worked for 35+ years until she retired early in 2016 to take care of her aging mother. She enjoyed only 7-1/2 months of retirement before she began feeling ill.

She leaves behind countless good friends and coworkers at St. Thomas Hospital, her beloved church family at Harpeth Heights Baptist Church in western Nashville, and many friends at our late mother's church Tappahannock Presbyterian Church. She was loved by all for her humble, positive and sweet spirit.

She leaves behind her brother, Joseph "Joey" E. Burrough III, her cousins, Judy Walker Harris (John) and Linda Harris Reynolds (Steve) and their daughter Lori Beth, and countless good, dear friends at Harpeth Heights Baptist Church and Tappahannock Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 11am at Harpeth Heights Baptist Church, 8063 hwy 100 in Nashville, TN. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service also at the church. Times for services in Virginia are pending.
